As always Greater Phuket been very dry since December, yet our tropical island continues to stay as iridescent and charming as years past. Actually , maybe more so than previous years, as its becoming a clean and green island with a major new local government Reduce, Reuse and Recycle campaign that Indigo Real Estate has been very involved with. The Andaman sea has been spectacular this year, with a brilliance that easily be mistaken for the Maldives and marine diversity that is surprisingly more like Palau.
At Koh Weaw Island, the small marine reserve off Trisara the reef is thriving with thousands of tropical fish, cruising barracudas metres away cool as you like, squid, snapper, grouper and even a superb large octopus with candy pink palms that melted into the rock as it changed its colour to a dark mottled brown. Also there is almost no marine rubbish and thanks to the Cherng Talay local government the old moorings were cut and replaced with new buoys so no more anchors. There were a number of old cargo planes and half a dozen choppers that were sunk as a dive site early in 2009, but the strong currents have moved them with a large school of jacks having made them their happy home. Good news for all Phuket’s aquatic enthusiasts who’ll be diving the site.
There have been a some very nice boats parked off our beach here at Surin. Moecca, a large dark blue catamaran with global range abilities has been basking around the region for a month. Maid Marian, looking resplendent after a massive refit wears her 1920s martini look originally well. The 170 ft Mega Yacht Red Dragon just appeared yesterday and is parked off the Amanpuri.
